Our History and Our Heart

In 1988 Nellie and her husband joined a newly organized Right-To-Life group. For 13 years she had carried a personal secret in her heart. She never planned on telling this group of people what she had done. But God had another plan. She was attending the monthly meeting when something was said that opened the door for her to share her secret. With tears streaming down her face she shared that 13 years prior when she was 12 weeks pregnant she aborted her child. The people who she though would turn their backs on her held their arms out to her with tears streaming down their faces.

That Night she took her first step toward working through what she had done. She had already asked for God’s forgiveness and had accepted His forgiveness, but because of having all this bottled up inside she was a prisoner. When she left that meeting she felt free and clean for the first time since the abortion. She was told that night, “You have a story to tell.”

Nellie, her husband and with this group of people, felt they should be doing more for those who find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy. They went to visit the Frederick County Crisis Pregnancy Center in Frederick, MD. They came away from that visit with a new vision and a book called “How to Organize a CPC.” This book was published by, “The Christian Action Council,” which is now called “Care Net.” This was the start of Mountain Top Crisis Pregnancy Center which later changed its name to The James Isaac House on September 14, 2016.

Nellie’s abortion profoundly impacted her life. Through her healing journey and God’s grace, she found peace and purpose, naming her lost son James Isaac. This name now represents our ministry, symbolizing hope, forgiveness, and the drive to support others.

The James Isaac House opened its first Pregnancy Resource Center in Mountain Lake Park on July 8, 1989 under the name of “Mountain Top Crisis Pregnancy Center” which later changed. TJIH received calls from other communities wanting a Pregnancy Resource Center. So TJIH opened a center in Keyser, WV on September 22, 1991, a center in Kingwood, WV on November 12, 1995, a center in Petersburg, WV on September 12, 2008 and a center in Grantsville, MD on August 19th 2025.

Today The James Isaac House is serving clients from 9 different counties. Since opening our doors, we have helped save countless lives and provided vital resources to those in need. For all the lives that have been saved and changed through the ministry of The James Isaac House, we give the Lord the praise and the credit. We are just willing vessels to be used by Him in His ministry.

Your support helps us continue this important work, and we are grateful to have you join us in making a difference.
